All Work and No Play Makes Allison… Something Something

I’ve been working my butt off on another Super Secret Project.  It’s not just a new pattern, either!  It’s going to be amazing!  I’m so stinking proud of it (although I’m currently between the point where I’m 90% sure that it’s utter garbage, and the point where I’m 100% sure that I’ll never actually finish it).

In short, I’m feeling a little like Jack Torrence from The Shining.  (But more caffeinated, less murder-y, and covered in yarn.)

I know, I know, it’s a total First World Problem, but this is my blog, so I get to complain about whatever I want!

The worst part is that I can’t share it with you yet! Even though I’m almost done with my part of the project, the whole thing won’t be done for months, so I’ve just got to be patient and keep my fingers crossed that everything works out.

In the meantime, I’m keeping my head down and chugging away on my part of the project, trying to be as quick and accurate as possible (and to have as few typos as possible- ha!).

And, when I’m feeling overwhelmed, I look at pictures of puppies and other people’s gorgeous finished projects, and daydream about when I will be able to work on any project I want… sigh…

Anyway, that’s why the “Here’s what I’m working on” posts have been a little sparse lately.

Are you working on anything new and exciting?  (Or old and boring… I’m interested in those projects, too!)

A Short Pause

I love being busy.  To me “a day with nothing to do” means “a day I can work on extra projects.  I  could work on my yard, knit up a sweater, write out a new pattern, make some peach sorbet, or get a jump on my blog writing.

But, it seems like this summer it’s been a little too busy.

I’ve been keeping up with the blog, of course, and working my two day jobs.  I’ve been working on several super-secret freelance design projects (stay tuned for more details!).  Plus, I have a puppy to take care of, a house to keep clean and dandelions to battle in the yard.  And, we keep having visitors stop by.

I love all of these things-  Our house guests have been fantastic, my jobs are great and I couldn’t be happier with how my patterns are turning out.

But there are only so many hours in the day, and I’m starting to get a little frazzled.

Luckily, today is a magical, amazing, special day.  A day when I don’t actually have to go into work!  It’s 9:30, and I’m still in bed.

Sure, I’ve already put in a good hour and a half of knitting time and I’m writing today’s blog post from my laptop, but it’s so much more pleasant to “work” from bed with music playing and a cup of coffee, my pup curled up at the foot of my bed.

My goal today is to knit as much as possible.  And that’s it!  It’s kind of great to only have one thing to do today.

So, I’ll sip my coffee, listen to my music, and knit another row.  (And then another, and another.)

Sometimes that’s all you need to refresh your brain.

And now, a picture of my dog having a very important conversation with his squirrel toy:

I’ve been a busy little bee

But I also have to be an enigmatic little bee.  (Sorry!)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWhat with Christmas, traveling, and work deadlines,  it’s been a hectic month.  I’ve been working my little fingers to their nubs on a super secret surprise project, that I can’t tell you about…  yet.  But let me just say, it’s going to be AWESOME!  Or, at least I think it will be.

So, thanks for sticking with me, and the moment I can tell you about my project, I totally will.  And, I’ll get back to my regularly scheduled updates on my projects, knitting tutorials and patterns this month.  But, in the meantime, can I appease you with a picture of a really adorable little lamb? (You can’t be angry with me if you’re too busy going “Awww!”)

Excuses, Excuses…

It drives me nuts when people make excuses to me about things that they have committed to.  If you say you’re going to do something, do it, or don’t, but don’t give me a sob story about how your dog is sick, you and your landlord are having a feud, and aliens abducted you.  I don’t want to hear it (unless it’s about aliens… that one sounds interesting).

That said, I’m now going to look like the biggest hypocrite in the world.  Sorry.

My job just jumped from being a part-time, afternoons-only gig to a full-time job.  Which is great!  I love my job (teaching sewing and other arts and crafts to kids).  But, it’s seriously cutting into my knitting time.  And, my freelance pattern-writing is picking up, too.  (I can’t give you any details, but I can say that I have some pretty cool things coming up.)

I have worked up a bit of a buffer, so I should be OK.  But, if ever a Monday, Wednesday or Friday goes by without a post, I just wanted you to know that I haven’t died.  I might be laying on my floor, exhausted after running around after 7-year-olds all day, but I haven’t abandoned you.

Keep on knitting, and send me happy knitting mojo.  I’ll need it.
