It turns out, cats really DO like yarn…

I’ve never had a cat (or a dog), and I don’t know how you knitters with animals manage it.

For real.

I spent a week at my in-laws’ house, and every time I got out my knitting, this was what happened.

It was all cats, all the time.  They were fascinated by my knitting, and kept trying to steal my ball of yarn.  One of them even tried to eat my circular needles.

I had to be very very careful to always put away my knitting securely whenever I got up.

WP_20150101_003At one point, I had to re-skein some lovely grey sock-weight, and the cats insisted on “helping”.  I don’t even know how they figured out what I was doing.  They were on a totally different floor of the house, then, suddenly, they were there.  They must  have some sort of cat RADAR.

They are pretty dang cute, though.  So they have that going for them.

Do you have an animal trying to help with your knitting?  How do you keep your projects safe from little claws and pointy teeth?

That sounds about right. Attempting to keep us from messing your knitting is futile. And thank you for the compliment. I think we are pretty cute. That’s what saves us 🙂

Kittehs (yes, that is a correct spelling!) and yarn are awesome together! Of course, I haven’t had the pleasure of owning a cat since I took up knitting . . . However, I used to cross stitch and my cockatiels LOVED the thread! I would end up giving them each (I had two) their own strands and let them play with it (keeping close watch, of course, so they wouldn’t actually ingest it). They like to groom it, lol! And of course, try to steal it from each other. So fun!

My older dog ignores the knitting, the younger dog loves to grab the balled yarn and has eaten a needle or two. But mostly just when he was a puppy. Now if he grabs something out of my knitting bag it’s because we have been away from the house too much and he is being a brat. LOL
